Child Health Nursing
The department provides training to 3rd year B.Sc nursing and 1st year PCB.Sc students and M.Sc nursing pediatric nursing specialty students to cater to the needs of children of all age groups, from birth to adolescence. Good teaching- learning experiences to the students are provided by means of expert teachers and good clinical practice. The department aims to enable student to function as educators, managers and researchers in the field of child health nursing.

ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT 1. Children’s day was celebrated on 14th November 2015 at Paediatric ward, AJIMS, Kuntikana. 2. World Sight Day was observed on 3rd October, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Higher Primary School, Kankanady, Mangaluru. Eye examination for the children was conducted by the doctors of the Ophthalmology Department, AJIMS, Kuntikana. 3. Paediatric Nursing Department along with Child Line Mangalore-1098 observed Prevention of abuse and violence against children on 18th November 2015 at Government high School, Jyothi, Mangaluru. Sr. Dulcine crasta, Director, Shanthi Sandesha Resource and Development Center, Bolar was the Guest of Honour & resource person. She emphasized to identify, prevent & demonstrate safe guard measures in self defence against abuse. 4. World Immunization week with the theme, “Close the Immunization Gap: Immunization for all throughout life” was observed on 18th April, 2016 at Laxmi Memorial Education Trust Auditorium, Balmatta, Mangaluru. Public awareness was created through poster presentation in the postnatal ward of AJIMS, Kuntikana on 21st April, 2016. The people of the Polali village were educated regarding the vaccines on 22nd April by the 2nd year M.Sc nursing students. 5. World Asthma Day was observed on 3rd may, 2016 with the theme, “You Can Control your Asthma”. Posters creating awareness were displayed in the premises of Laxmi Memorial College of nursing and pulmonary OPD of AJIMS, Kuntikana. 6. World Obesity day was observed on 24th October, 2016 at Infant Mary School, Jeppu. Mrs. Dora D’souza, yoga therapist enlightened the school children regarding prevention of obesity by nutritional measures and yoga therapy. 7. Children’s day was celebrated on 11tyh November 2016 with the tiny tots of marakada anganwadi Kendra, mangaluru.
