Worldwide Sexual and Reproductive Health Awareness Day is observed on 12 th February. The main objectives of the day are to create awareness among public regarding sexual abuse, sexual rights and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases.
Staffs of Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing, of Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing in association with PADI Mangaluru, observed Sexual and Reproductive Health awareness day on 12 th February 2018 at 10a.m. at Keddalike Higher Primary School, Kawalkatte. Mr.Dinesh shetty, President of school development committee Keddalike Chief Guest, highlighted on the importance of conducting such programmes as most of the sexual abuse cases are unreported due to social climate in rural areas. Mr.Umesh Nirmal, Member of Juvenile Justice Board, Mangaluru, Guest of Honor and the Resource person. Dr. Larissa Martha Sams Principal, Presided over the programme .Mr. Reni D’souza President, Child Welfare Centre D.K., Mrs.Sujatha, E.C.O. Block Education Office, Bantwal and Mr. Ramesh Nayak, Head Master and Mrs. Uma N. in charge Headmistress, Mrs. Sandhya D. Almeida, H.O.D. OBG Nursing L.M.C.N. were present in the programme.
A health awareness talk on sexual abuse and sexual rights was delivered by Mr. Umesh Nirmal, followed by Mrs. Cletta Tauro, Lecturer L.M.C. N. on secondary sexual characteristics and sexual Health. Lastly, Mrs. Sandhya D’Almeida gave a talk on Menstrual Hygiene with a meaningful video presentation. Mrs. Gayathri, member of PADI Mangaluru, proposed the vote of thanks and Mrs. Leena D’souza, Assistant professor compeered the entire programme. Pamplets and booklets about Sexual Health and Menstrual Hygiene were distributed. About 100 students from 4 different schools participated in the programme.
